The Fiera di San Rocco di Calto is one of the oldest events in Polesine: established around 1586, it has surpassed 430 editions by 2025, a record that tells how deeply this fair is rooted in the identity of the small municipality of Calto, in the province of Rovigo, on the extreme border with the province of Ferrara.
Five evenings of celebration
The fair traditionally takes place in mid-August at the municipal sports facilities. The program includes five evenings with live music, entertainment, a large funfair, and food stands offering the flavors of the Polesine tradition. It is a time when the entire town, and the neighboring municipalities, come together to share conviviality and fun in the heart of summer.
Devotion and community
Linked to the figure of Saint Roch, a protector invoked against epidemics, the fair combines the devotional dimension with the popular one. For a village of a few hundred inhabitants like Calto, it represents the event of the year: the occasion when the centuries-old history of the community becomes a living celebration, passed down from generation to generation by the Municipality and the Pro Loco.

In 2026 too, the Fiera di San Rocco will return in mid-August to Calto, renewing a tradition that has lasted for over four centuries.
