Maniago's ancient summer fair, now 'under the stars'
Its roots lie in peasant tradition: Maniago's Fiera di San Giacomo began as a historic agricultural and livestock market, linked to the feast day of the patron saint. Over time, like many village fairs, it has transformed: today it is primarily an occasion for meeting, commerce, gastronomy, and tourism promotion, presented in the evening format of "San Giacomo sotto le stelle" (Saint James under the stars).
For three nights, in late July, Piazza Italia becomes the beating heart of Maniago's summer. From 6 PM onwards, the centre of Maniagoโthe famous "City of Knives" in the province of Pordenoneโfills with people, flavours, music, and fun, in an event that blends tradition and contemporaneity.
The culinary heart of the festival is the food trucks, offering a world tour of cuisine: from Ireland to Mexico, from Belgium to Puglia. Musical evenings liven up the square with DJ sets and themed nights, while the sports area hosts tournaments and open spaces for basketball, volleyball, and football. For the little ones, there are inflatable attractions and educational workshops, such as "Piccoli Chef Crescono" (Little Chefs Grow Up), designed for fun and learning.
Maniago is a town in the foothills of Pordenone, known worldwide for its knife-making tradition and situated at the gateway to the Friulian Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Fiera di San Giacomo is one of the events that best showcases its summer vibrancy: a community festival that knows how to renew itself without forgetting its origins.
In 2026, the Fiera di San Giacomo will once again liven up Piazza Italia at the end of July, confirming the 'San Giacomo under the stars' format: three nights of celebration with food trucks from around the world, music and evening DJ sets, sports activities, and attractions and workshops for families.
The detailed program will be announced in the coming weeks by the Pro Loco Maniago association. The traditional structure includes opening from 6 PM with food stalls (international food trucks), a sports area with tournaments and open spaces, attractions and workshops for children, and musical evenings with DJ sets starting from 9 PM.
Maniago can be reached by car from Pordenone (about 30 minutes). The fair takes place in Piazza Italia, in the town centre.
Activities and stalls open from 6 PM; musical evenings start from 9 PM.
Free admission; food and drinks from food trucks are paid.
