The patronal festival of Carpenedolo celebrating the Malfatto De.Co., the typical raviolo of the town
The Fiera di San Bartolomeo is the patronal festival of Carpenedolo, a municipality in the province of Brescia on the border with the southern Garda area and Mantua. Celebrated in August in honor of Saint Bartholomew, the town's patron saint, the fair has a history spanning several decades (over fifty editions) and is one of the most anticipated events of the Carpenedolo summer. Organized by the Pro Loco Carpenedolo, it combines religious tradition with popular celebrations.
The gastronomic heart of the event is the Sagra del Malfatto, dedicated to Carpenedolo's typical raviolo, recognized as a De.Co. (Municipal Designation) product. Malfatto is a filled pasta with an irregular shape, hence its name, which tells the story of the area's peasant cuisine. Alongside it, the fair also promotes the De.Co. dry cake, another of the town's signature desserts. The Pro Loco's food stalls offer these typical dishes along with specialties of the Bresciana tradition.
The fair is not just about gastronomy: the program also highlights the artistic and architectural features of Carpenedolo, with cultural initiatives, tours, and moments dedicated to the town's heritage, as well as works created by local volunteers. Music, markets, and entertainment complete a schedule designed for all ages, making the fair a moment of gathering for the entire community.
Patronal festival and sagra of a typical product combined: the Fiera di San Bartolomeo perfectly embodies the spirit of summer festivals in the Bassa Bresciana region, where devotion to the patron saint intertwines with the promotion of local flavors and traditions. For visitors to the area in August, it is the ideal opportunity to discover Carpenedolo and its Malfatto.
The 2026 edition of the Fiera di San Bartolomeo with the Sagra del Malfatto is expected in August in Carpenedolo, on the occasion of the town's patronal festival (Saint Bartholomew, August 24th). Indicative dates are around August 22-24, to be confirmed by the Pro Loco Carpenedolo. The event, as per tradition, will highlight the Malfatto De.Co. — the typical Carpenedolo raviolo — and the De.Co. dry cake, complementing the gastronomy with religious moments, cultural initiatives on the town's artistic and architectural heritage, music, and markets. The detailed program will be published by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the Pro Loco Carpenedolo closer to the event. Traditional structure of the fair in the historic center:
