The Festa del Gru-Gro in Grole
The Festa del Gru-Gro is the sagra (traditional festival) of the Grole hamlet, in the Municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere, in the province of Mantova. It is organized by the Gruppo Volontari Grole, the local volunteer group known as "Gru-Gro" which has been organizing the festival and taking care of the hamlet for many years.
Six evenings of food and music
The event takes place over several evenings (traditionally six) with stands opening at 7:00 PM, and also includes Sunday lunch. The kitchen offers a mix of land and sea dishes: fried food, fish, pizza, and traditional specialties. Each evening is accompanied by live music, in a village festival atmosphere that attracts residents from the hamlet and surrounding areas.
A festival for charity
The distinctive feature of the Gru-Gro is its charitable aspect: the proceeds from the festival are allocated to the restoration of the hamlet's monuments and church and to local volunteer projects. An example of how a small community in the Alto Mantovano region knows how to celebrate and take care of its territory.

For 2026 too, the Gruppo Volontari Grole is bringing back the Festa del Gru-Gro in the Grole hamlet of Castiglione delle Stiviere (MN). The traditional format is confirmed: several evenings between late August and early September, stands opening at 7:00 PM, land and sea cuisine (fried food, fish, pizza), Sunday lunch, and live music. The proceeds are allocated to the restoration of the hamlet's monuments and local volunteer work.
