The ancient fair of August 24th in the churchyard of Caorsa, a centuries-old tradition of the Veronese Garda hinterland
The Fiera di San Bartolomeo, historically known as the Fiera dei Suini (Pig Fair), is one of the oldest traditions in the Upper Garda region of Verona. It takes place every year on August 24th, the day of Saint Bartholomew, in the small hamlet of Caorsa, a district of the Municipality of Affi (province of Verona), halfway between Affi and Cavaion Veronese, in the shadow of Monte Moscal.
The origins of the fair date back to the 12th-13th centuries, when the event was a pig market, a reference point for farmers in the Garda hinterland who came here to buy piglets. The link with the saint is not coincidental: Saint Bartholomew is considered the patron saint of butchers and is traditionally associated with the figure of the pig, hence the popular name "Fiera dei Suini".
The heart of the event is the churchyard of the church of San Bartolomeo della Caorsa, a Romanesque building documented since the 13th century, the period to which the presence of the district also dates back. Although no longer a place for trading animals, the ancient fair continues to be celebrated in the church square and still attracts numerous visitors from all over the region.
For the community of Affi and the surrounding hamlets, the Fiera di San Bartolomeo di Caorsa represents an event of strong historical and folkloristic value, a living testimony of a centuries-old mercantile and religious tradition of the Garda hinterland.
The Fiera di San Bartolomeo returns to the hamlet of Caorsa di Affi on August 24, 2026, on the day dedicated to the saint. The event takes place in the churchyard of the Romanesque church of San Bartolomeo, in the province of Verona, keeping alive the ancient folkloristic tradition of the Garda region.
The detailed program for the Fiera di San Bartolomeo 2026 will be announced by the Municipality of Affi in the weeks preceding the event. The fair, of a folkloristic and traditional nature, takes place around the church of San Bartolomeo in the hamlet of Caorsa.
Caorsa is a district of Affi, in the province of Verona, reachable by car from the A22 motorway (Affi exit) or the A4 motorway (Affi/Lago di Garda Sud exit). The fair takes place in the churchyard of the church of San Bartolomeo, between Affi and Cavaion Veronese.
Access to the fair is free. For the updated program, consult the website of the Municipality of Affi (comune.affi.vr.it).
