The patron saint's fair

The Antica Fiera di San Michele is held at the end of September in Calmasino, a district of Bardolino, in the province of Verona. It is linked to the patron saint St. Michael the Archangel and the old agricultural calendar: in the Veneto countryside, "far San Michele" meant moving house, because the land rental contracts expired on the saint's day.

Tractors, bells and crafts of yesteryear

The most characteristic moment is the parade of vintage tractors with the blessing of the agricultural machinery in Piazza San Michele, accompanied by bell concerts. The fair hosts exhibitions of ancient arts, crafts and agricultural machinery, as well as cultural, astronomical and entertainment events for all ages.

Flavours of tradition

The gastronomic offer is rich, with 'gnocchi di malga' (dumplings from mountain huts), tripe, stew with polenta, the traditional Fogàssa (focaccia) and vegan options. It's an opportunity to rediscover the peasant dishes of the Veronese Garda in a village atmosphere.

Organisation and identity

The event is organised by the Associazione Culturale Calmasin nel Cor with the patronage of the Municipality of Bardolino, and represents one of the most cherished autumn events on the Garda, capable of passing down the rural traditions of Calmasino to new generations.
