The Valtènesi Fair
In Puegnago del Garda, a municipality in the province of Brescia in the hilly hinterland of Valtènesi, the Fiera di Puegnago is the event that celebrates the gastronomic excellences of the southern Lake Garda area at the end of summer. Now in its fortieth edition, it is one of the longest-running and most characteristic fairs on the Brescia side of the lake.
Casaliva Oil and Groppello Wine
The absolute stars are the two symbolic products of the region: Casaliva extra virgin olive oil, a typical variety of Garda olive groves, and Groppello, a native red wine from the gentle hills of Valtènesi. The fair features a showcase of over 60 single-varietal oils from many Italian regions, with guided tastings and insights curated by industry experts (ASSAM Marche and AIPOL), open to the public.
The Hosteria dello Spiedo
The king dish of the fair is spiedo bresciano with polenta, served every evening at the Hosteria dello Spiedo from 6 PM to 11 PM, and also for lunch on Sundays. It is the ultimate expression of the region's traditional cuisine, around which the entire community gathers.
Carts, Palio delle Botti and Celebration
The three days also offer a rich programme of events: band concerts, sports activities for children, musical entertainment, and two keenly awaited events linked to local traditions — the parade of traditional carts on Sunday afternoon and the Palio delle Botti (Barrel Race), a challenge between the municipalities of Valtènesi. The Fiera di Puegnago del Garda, in Lombardy, is therefore much more than a gastronomic exhibition: it is a celebration that tells the identity of an entire territory.
Fiera di Puegnago — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Fiera di Puegnago del Garda is expected, as tradition dictates, between late August and early September, for three days dedicated to the gastronomic excellences of Valtènesi.
The established format includes guided tastings of Casaliva oil and single-varietal oils, Groppello wine offerings, the Hosteria dello Spiedo serving Brescian spiedo, concerts, children's activities, the parade of traditional carts, and the Palio delle Botti. The exact dates and detailed program will be announced by the Fair Office in the weeks prior.
Programme Fiera di Puegnago 2026
Based on recent editions, the Fiera di Puegnago del Garda offers throughout the three days:
- Oil Tastings — Over 60 single-varietal oils from many Italian regions, with tasting stations and guided tastings open to the public (ASSAM Marche, AIPOL).
- Hosteria dello Spiedo — Brescian spiedo with polenta every evening from 6 PM to 11 PM, and also for lunch on Sundays (11:30 AM - 2:30 PM).
- Groppello Wine and typical Valtènesi products for tasting.
- Band Concert, sports activities for children, and musical entertainment.
- Parade of traditional carts on Sunday afternoon.
- Palio delle Botti (Barrel Race) among the Valtènesi municipalities.
