About Palio di Noale

In June, Noale returns to the 14th century with the Palio di Noale, the grand historical reenactment that revives the palio (a competition) proclaimed by the Tempesta Lords in their castle between 1339 and 1347. For three days, the districts of the Venetian town compete in the Palio race, while the historic centre transforms into a medieval village with a costume parade, district market, jugglers, fire-eaters, falconers, and flag-wavers. Among the most evocative moments are the Bala d'Oro ceremony and the Tower's burning, set against the backdrop of the Rocca dei Tempesta.

Noale Returns to the Middle Ages

The Palio di Noale is the historical reenactment that brings the town of Noale, in the province of Venice, back to the heart of the 14th century. The event revives the palio proclaimed by the Tempesta Lords in their castle in the years 1339 and 1347, and since 1996 it has been renewed every year in June, animating the Rocca dei Tempesta and Piazza Castello.

The Competing Districts

The protagonists of the festival are the districts (contrade) of Noale — Bastia, Cerva, Drago, Gato, San Giorgio, San Giovanni, and Sant'Urbano — which compete in the Palio race, a mixed-gender relay of about 800 metres. The competition is the culmination of three days of festivities where the medieval market of the districts and ancient crafts are brought back to life.

Shows and Ceremonies

The programme alternates between the grand historical parade with hundreds of costumed participants, the Bala d'Oro ceremony (dedicated to girls turning eighteen), the burning of the Tower, and numerous shows: jugglers, fire-eaters, falconers, and flag-wavers animate the village streets, amidst music and duels.

A Tradition of the Venetian Area

Organised by the Associazione Culturale Palio di Noale, the Palio is one of the most cherished events in the region. For visitors to the Veneto, it is the ideal opportunity to discover the history of the Tempesta family and the atmosphere of an authentic medieval village, just a few kilometres from Venice.

Palio di Noale — edition 2026

The Palio di Noale 2026 takes place from June 19 to 21 between the Rocca dei Tempesta and Piazza Castello. Three days of medieval historical reenactment with a costume parade, district market, Palio race, Bala d'Oro ceremony, Tower burning, and shows by jugglers, fire-eaters, falconers, and flag-wavers.

The 2026 edition of the Palio di Noale takes place from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, between the Rocca dei Tempesta and Piazza Castello, in the historic centre of Noale (VE).

For three days, the village relives the atmosphere of the 14th century: a historical parade with hundreds of participants, a medieval market of the seven districts (Bastia, Cerva, Drago, Gato, San Giorgio, San Giovanni, Sant'Urbano), the Palio race, the Bala d'Oro ceremony, and the burning of the Tower. The official dates are indicated by the Municipality of Noale.
