Floats, masquerades, and marching bands through the streets of Fiano Romano
The Fiano Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in Fiano Romano, a town in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region, overlooking the Tiber Valley at the entrance to the Sabina area. For one afternoon, the town center bursts with color: allegorical floats, masked groups, confetti, and music transform the town into a collective celebration that delights both young and old.
The event is organized by the Fiano Romano Municipal Administration, through the Culture and Tourism Office, in collaboration with the Fiano Romano Pro Loco and the Fiano Romano Musical Band. It is this synergy between local institutions and associations that gives the Fiano Carnival its unique character: it is not a manufactured event, but a tradition renewed through the hard work of volunteers, schools, and local groups who spend months preparing costumes and displays.
The heart of the day is the parade. The meeting point is Piazza Nassiriya, where floats, masks, and performers gather; from there, the procession moves along Via Tiberina, continues through Via Aldo Moro and Via Giordano Bruno, before returning to the square where the party continues with music and entertainment. The route, entirely flat and within the town center, is easy to navigate even with strollers, and it is easy to find a good viewing spot along the barriers.
Accompanying the floats are the Medullia Majorettes of Sant'Angelo Romano, with their choreography, and the Fiano Romano Musical Band, which sets the rhythm of the parade with marches and popular tunes. It is a classic formula for a Lazio town carnival, where the parade is not just a spectacle but an opportunity for generations to come together.
Admission is free and open to all, and the event is specifically designed for families: children in costume, confetti, and streamers are the true stars of the afternoon. Those arriving with little ones will find an intimate and safe environment, quite different from the crowds of major city carnivals.
Fiano Romano is an ancient village dominated by the Orsini Castle, now a symbol of the town and a venue for cultural initiatives. Its location, just a few kilometers from the motorway exit and less than an hour from Rome, makes it a convenient destination for a day trip: the Carnival is the perfect excuse to explore the historic center, its squares, and the cuisine of the Sabina region, featuring extra virgin olive oil, cured meats, and homemade pasta.
The Carnival kicks off the season of local events, which continues with patronal feasts, the summer Estate Fianese program, and Christmas initiatives. To stay updated on dates and programs, it is always best to check the Municipality's website, where official news and posters are published.
