The organ takes centre stage in Bergamo's churches
The "Città di Bergamo" International Organ Festival has been a benchmark event for organ music enthusiasts for over thirty years. The review rediscovers and enhances the rich heritage of historic organs housed in Bergamo's churches, transforming these places of worship into concert halls with unique acoustics and atmosphere.
The 34th edition offers concerts every Friday from September 18 to October 23, 2026. Each event is held in a different church in the city, offering the public the chance to discover often little-known instruments and sacred spaces, accompanied by the music of the great organ masters.
The festival's format focuses on three elements: the interpretation of the great repertoire, improvisation—an increasingly rare and precious art—and the presence of prestigious guests from all over Europe. The repertoire ranges from Johann Sebastian Bach to modern improvisation, offering a broad and fascinating panorama of organ music.
The 2026 edition was preceded by a preview on June 5, in the church of Saints Stephen and Bartholomew, dedicated to Vincenzo Antonio Petrali, with Simone Della Torre on the 1884 Locatelli organ and Diego Ambrosioni as speaker. A festival that makes Bergamo's sacred music and organ heritage, in the heart of Lombardy, a treasure to be rediscovered.
