Wild berries, sport, and tradition in Subit di Attimis
Nestled in the woods of the Julian Prealps, the hamlet of Subit — in the municipality of Attimis — hosts the annual Festival of Wild Berries and Sport, an event that blends the best of local gastronomic tradition with a packed program of outdoor activities. This combination makes this mountain village an ideal destination for those seeking authentic flavors and nature.
Cuisine takes center stage with dishes that tell the story of the region: the wild herb pie, pasta with herb sauce, the unmissable Montasio cheese frico, grilled meats, and roast pork. To finish, specialties based on wild berries — cakes and drinks — which give the festival its name, celebrating the fruits harvested from the surrounding woods.
The sporting aspect is equally important: the five-a-side football tournament draws teams and fans, while e-bike tours lead to the discovery of the area's woods and forest roads, along scenic routes with challenging climbs. There are also vintage car exhibitions, adding a touch of charm to the event.
The festival is an identity-defining event for Subit and the entire municipality of Attimis, traditionally linked to the patronal celebrations of Saint Anne. Organized by local volunteers, it's the perfect opportunity to experience the Friulian mountains in summer, with a blend of taste, sport, and conviviality.
For 2026, the Festival of Wild Berries and Sport will return to Subit di Attimis in July, traditionally coinciding with the patronal feast of Saint Anne. The typical dishes of the Torre valleys — wild herb pie, Montasio frico, wild berry cakes — will be offered again, along with the five-a-side football tournament, e-bike tours, and vintage car exhibitions.
The exact dates have not yet been confirmed: in recent editions, the festival took place at the end of July, over a weekend.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced in the coming weeks. Based on previous editions, the event includes:
