The patronal feast of Fontaniva, between centuries-old devotion, gastronomy and entertainment
The Festival of the Blessed Bertrand is the patronal feast of Fontaniva, a town in the upper Padua region bordering Cittadella. It is dedicated to Blessed Bertrand, a German pilgrim who lived in the 13th century and, according to tradition, left all his possessions to go to Rome, dying in Fontaniva in 1221. His relics have been venerated by the community for over 600 years, and the Duomo was dedicated to him as early as 1262.
Two annual festivals are dedicated to Blessed Bertrand: one at the end of February - the first Sunday in March, and the other in October. The late winter event symbolically opens the season of village festivals in the area.
For four days, the area behind the Town Hall comes alive with a large food stand offering spit-roasted meats and local specialties, a bar service, and dancing evenings. The opening night features dancing with the Marina Feltrin Orchestra, while the closing night is more commercial with a DJ. The program is completed by carousels, a charity raffle, street artists, jugglers, and wooden games for the little ones.
Promoted by the Municipality of Fontaniva and the Parish with the involvement of local associations, the festival is a moment of identity for the town and the entire upper Padua region, between the province of Padua and rural Veneto.
