The festival of Mondolfo's symbolic dish, featuring fava bean flour and Marche tradition
The Festival of Tajulin sa la Fava is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in the Municipality of Mondolfo, a hilltop village in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in Marche. At the heart of the festival is the dish that gives the event its name: tajulin sa la fava, which means egg tagliolini made with fava bean flour, a peasant recipe rooted in the region's simple cuisine and now recognized as a typical regional dish.
The festival takes place at the San Sebastiano Gardens, a large green space in Mondolfo, and is organized by the Pro Loco Tre Colli, an association affiliated with UNPLI. Over sixty volunteers are involved in the success of the event, with one team dedicated exclusively to preparing the main dish, kneaded by hand according to tradition.
The festival typically spans two days, with gastronomic stands opening on Saturday evening and, from 2026, also a Sunday lunch featuring tajulin. The evenings are accompanied by live music and entertainment, while Sunday mornings and afternoons feature fresh pasta workshops for children, a moment greatly loved by families.
The Festival of Tajulin sa la Fava is much more than a festival: it is a celebration of the uniqueness of a community, a province, and an entire region. The 2026 edition received a visit from inspectors for the UNPLI Quality Festivals, an initiative aimed at certifying the authenticity of recipes, the promotion of local products, and the commitment of volunteers. This confirms the value of an event that, in just a few editions, has become a highly anticipated date on the Marche gastronomic calendar.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Tajulin sa la Fava was held on Saturday, May 16th, and Sunday, May 17th, at the San Sebastiano Gardens in Mondolfo, organized by Pro Loco Tre Colli with over sixty volunteers.
On Saturday, the stands opened at 6:30 PM with the signature dish, followed by a musical evening with Mirko and Simona. Sunday featured fresh pasta workshops for children at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, lunch with tajulin at 12:00 PM, and the reopening of the stands at 6:30 PM, with the final evening entrusted to Dr. Botta. Throughout the festival, a charity raffle supported the Lega del Filo d'Oro.
