The traveling storytelling festival of the Valle di Comino stops in Casalvieri
The Festival of Stories is one of the most deep-rooted cultural events in lower Lazio: a traveling storytelling festival that every late August crosses the villages of the Valle di Comino, in the heart of the province of Frosinone, at the foot of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park. Born in 2009 from an idea that unites culture, territory, and community, the festival has chosen squares, streets, castles, and convents as natural stages, to make knowledge open and shared rather than closed and exclusive.
The festival's formula is that of a caravan of stories: seven consecutive days, each hosted by a different town in the valley. The Municipality of Casalvieri is one of the stops on this journey, which involves villages such as San Donato Val di Comino, Gallinaro, Settefrati, Picinisco, Alvito, and Atina. Every evening, writers, journalists, magistrates, scientists, and artists take the stage to tell a story, share an experience, or reflect on the themes of the present, in a direct dialogue with the audience.
The 2026 edition, the seventeenth, is dedicated to the Canticle of the Creatures by Saint Francis of Assisi, on the occasion of the eight hundredth anniversary of the composition of the famous text and the saint's death. The theme serves as a common thread for the evenings in the valley, with a reflection on the relationship between man, nature, and spirituality. In Casalvieri, the appointment is set for August 26th in Piazza San Rocco, the heart of the town, where the festival is part of the Estate Casalvierana program.
Directed by Vittorio Macioce, the Festival of Stories has hosted over the years prominent figures of Italian journalism, literature, and culture, bringing to the province of Frosinone a level of guests that rarely reaches the small towns of the Apennines. The strength of the event lies precisely in this encounter between great national voices and local communities, in a landscape setting that combines mountains, bell towers, and ancient villages.
The Festival of Stories represents today a fixed appointment of the end of the Lazio summer, capable of combining cultural tourism, promotion of villages, and civic reflection in one of the most evocative valleys of Lazio.
The seventeenth edition of the Festival of Stories takes place from August 23 to 29, 2026, in the Valle di Comino, in the province of Frosinone, with one evening in each of the seven villages involved. This year's theme is the Canticle of the Creatures by Saint Francis of Assisi, celebrated on its eighth centenary. In Casalvieri, the appointment is on August 26th in Piazza San Rocco, as part of the Estate Casalvierana program.
The event is preceded by a preview, "Stories at the Castle", hosted on July 4 and 5, 2026, in Belmonte Castello with free admission meetings from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The Casalvieri stop is held in Piazza San Rocco, in the town center (03034, province of Frosinone, Lazio). The other evenings take place in the villages of the Valle di Comino.
By car: from the A1 motorway, take the Pontecorvo or Ceprano exit, then head towards Val di Comino and Casalvieri. By train: the reference station is Cassino, on the Rome-Naples line via Cassino, with continuation by bus or car towards the valley.
Meetings in the squares are free to attend. For the detailed program and times: website festivaldellestorie.it, email [email protected], tel. +39 333 386 7927.
