Arona's multicultural day celebrating flavors, traditions, and dialogue between cultures
The Festival of Peoples is an intercultural event that brings life to Arona, an elegant town overlooking Lake Maggiore in the province of Novara, in the heart of Piedmont. Promoted by the Artigiani di Pace network, the festival was born with a clear goal: to show that a different world is possible, a world where diversity is a wealth rather than a fear, and where people can meet, get to know each other, and recognize their shared humanity.
The heart of the day is Piazzale Camilla Ravera, the square overlooking the ferry terminal named after the first female senator for life in Italy. Here, the various local communities set up stands rich in color, tradition, and memory, proudly sharing their cultures through costumes, customs, music, and typical dishes. It is an opportunity to travel across continents without leaving the lakeside, tasting specialties prepared by the foreign communities living in the Arona area.
Alongside the convivial atmosphere, the Festival of Peoples gives a voice to numerous social organizations: the Anti-Violence Center, the Community of Sant'Egidio, ANPI, Casa dei Popoli, Breath for Life, Insieme si puรฒ, the Scouts, and the Women's Council share their experiences on current issues such as hospitality, rights, and the fight against labor exploitation. Live music completes the program, while the day concludes at the San Carlo Oratory with a grand multi-ethnic aperitif open to all citizensโa moment of friendship and sharing that draws hundreds of people.
The event is part of the broader 'Giro d'Italia per la Pace' (Tour of Italy for Peace) initiative, of which it has been a stop, testifying to the social and cultural value of the project. For the Municipality of Arona, the Festival of Peoples is an event that combines a public celebration with civic commitment, perfect for those visiting Lake Maggiore who want to experience the most open and supportive side of the Piedmontese territory.
