The festival of the San Francesco community in Carpi, between faith, music, and shared tables
The Festival of Our Lady of the Rose is the most cherished event of the Parish of San Francesco d'Assisi in Carpi, in the province of Modena, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. For over two weeks, the parish courtyard on Via Catellani comes alive every evening, transforming into what the organizers like to call "a great community laboratory": a place where volunteers of all ages handle the setup, kitchen, and musical entertainment.
The festival originated around Marian devotion and accompanies the closing of the parish's pastoral year. However, it is not just a religious moment: it is a popular festival in all respects, where shared tables become the symbol of a community coming together. As the organizers recall, "the Church is made not only of walls, bell towers, or structures, but above all of people".
The gastronomic heart of the festival is entrusted to the "Ladies of the Kitchen," who hand-make the green tortelli according to Emilian tradition. Among the signature dishes are the Rosa salads and the Patatrack, which has become a true emblem of the festival's conviviality over the years. The festival restaurant opens every evening, with a menu that blends local specialties and solidarity offerings.
During the festival weeks, there are alternating concerts and live music, tombola evenings, public meetings, shows, and events designed for families. The parish scout group shares the year's budget and preparations for summer camps with the community. It is a program that blends the sacred and the profane, tradition and joy, in a true Emilian spirit.
The festival concludes with the Family Day and the Holy Mass for wedding anniversaries, where couples publicly renew their vows, followed by the grand community lunch in the courtyard: families, volunteers, young and old sitting at the same table, marking the end of the pastoral year.
The 33rd edition of the Festival of Our Lady of the Rose enlivened the courtyard of the Parish of San Francesco d'Assisi in Carpi from May 22 to June 7, 2026. For over two weeks, the courtyard on Via Catellani transformed into a place of celebration, music, and conviviality, involving families, young people, and community volunteers.
The festival featured alternating concerts, tombola evenings, public meetings, and events for families, accompanied each evening by the parish kitchen with its signature dishes. The concluding Sunday, June 7, celebrated the Family Day and the end of the pastoral year with a grand community lunch.
The detailed program for each evening was announced by the parish in the weeks leading up to the festival.
