The art and design of glass in the village of master glassmakers
Piegaro, a small municipality in the province of Perugia, preserves a glassmaking tradition of over seven hundred years: here, according to tradition, Venetian master glassmakers moved as early as the Middle Ages. The Festival of Glass celebrates this ancient identity with three days dedicated to the art and design of glass, hosted at the Glass Museum, located in the fascinating space of the ancient furnace.
The festival brings together Italian and foreign master glassmakers who demonstrate the various working techniques live: fused glass, Tiffany technique, lampworking, mosaic, blowing. Conferences, demonstrations, and workshops—for adults and children—allow visitors to get closer to a fascinating and ancient craft, in a program that combines education and practice.
In addition to workshop activities, the festival features art exhibitions and evening events, intertwining excellent craftsmanship with culture and local promotion. For the community of Piegaro and for Umbria, the event represents an opportunity to enhance a unique artisanal heritage, recognized far beyond regional borders.
The eighth edition of the Piegaro Festival of Glass was held from May 22 to 24, 2026, at the Glass Museum (Via Garibaldi 20). Three days dedicated to the art and design of glass, with conferences, courses, workshops for children, and workshops on working techniques, led by Italian and foreign master glassmakers.
The opening ceremony on May 22 featured the presentation of the "Entrepreneur of the Year" award to Brunello Cucinelli, who was honored with a glass plaque depicting Solomeo. On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, a life-size glass statue of the saint was created during the festival, destined for the museum's monumental nativity scene, with the first engraving entrusted to Cucinelli himself. An art exhibition by Michelangelo Giappichini, "IO È TE," accompanied the event and remained open throughout June.
Piegaro is located in the province of Perugia, a short distance from Lake Trasimeno, reachable by car from the Perugia-Bettolle junction. The Glass Museum is at Via Garibaldi 20.
