Provvidenti's summer festival, eagerly awaited by emigrants returning to the village
Every summer, in the days following Ferragosto, Provvidenti — a municipality in the province of Campobasso, among the least populous in the region — celebrates Saint Bartholomew (whose feast day is August 24th) and Saint Anthony of Padua. The small community experiences these celebrations with faith, devotion, and a strong sense of belonging to their hometown and traditions.
The choice to hold the festival after Ferragosto is not accidental: it allows those who left the village to participate when they return for their summer holidays. In a municipality that, like many in inland Molise, has experienced emigration, the festival thus becomes a moment of reunion, where families gather and the community comes together around its saints.
Provvidenti, dominated by the Church of Santa Maria Assunta with its stone bell tower from 1380, preserves numerous noble coats of arms on the buildings of its historic center, testifying to centuries of local nobility. The festival of Saint Bartholomew and Saint Anthony is one of the best occasions to discover this authentic corner of Molise, far from the usual tourist routes, and to experience the warmth of a late-summer village festival.
For the summer of 2026, in the days following Ferragosto, Provvidenti renews the festival in honor of Saint Bartholomew and Saint Anthony of Padua. The celebration, experienced with faith and a sense of belonging, is also designed to welcome emigrants returning to their hometown for the holidays. Details of the dates and program will be announced by the municipality and parish in the weeks prior.
Program coming soon. The festival traditionally includes religious celebrations in honor of Saint Bartholomew and Saint Anthony of Padua, with community events typical of late-summer village festivals. Detailed dates and times for August 2026 will be communicated by the municipality and parish.
Provvidenti is located in the hills of the province of Campobasso, on the route towards the sea. It is accessible by car.
The festival takes place in August, in the days following Ferragosto (around August 24th, the feast day of Saint Bartholomew). Free admission. Info: Municipality of Provvidenti, tel. 0874 841495.
