The major festival dedicated to wind instruments at the Conservatorio Cantelli in Novara
Festival Fiati is the music festival organized by the "Guido Cantelli" Conservatory in Novara, Piedmont, entirely devoted to wind instruments. Created to showcase the repertoire and pedagogy of the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, and euphonium, the festival has evolved over the years into much more than a simple concert series: it is a space for meeting, growth, and exchange between different generations, schools, and musical traditions.
The heart of the event is the combination of evening concerts open to the public and masterclasses reserved for students, who can study closely with some of the most important Italian and international performers in the wind music scene. Alongside these events, a rich selection of workshops and labs explores themes such as improvisation, contemporary music, breathing techniques, and preparation for professional auditions.
All events are held at the "F.lli Olivieri" Auditorium, located on Via Collegio Gallarini, the historic home of the Conservatory in the center of Novara. The format blends outreach, higher education, and performance, offering enthusiasts the chance to see world-renowned soloists live and providing young musicians the opportunity to engage with their mentors.
Thanks to the quality of its guests and the continuity of the project, Festival Fiati has established itself as one of the most significant cultural events in the city of Novara and the entire province. The festival also includes side initiatives under the "Fuori Festival Fiati" label, which bring music outside the walls of the Conservatory in collaboration with local Piedmontese organizations. For the public, it is a precious opportunity to rediscover the tonal variety and vast repertoire of wind instruments, from the Baroque era to contemporary music and jazz.
The 23rd edition of Festival Fiati took place from February to May 2026 at the "F.lli Olivieri" Auditorium in Novara, confirming its status as a landmark for wind instrument enthusiasts. The program featured 13 concerts with Italian and international artists, 16 masterclasses, and a rich selection of workshops dedicated to improvisation, contemporary music, and audition preparation. The festival concluded with the traditional final concert on May 28, performed by the faculty of the Cantelli Conservatory.
Closing concert performed by the Cantelli Conservatory faculty: Mario Coppola (piano), Andrea Chenna (oboe), Roberto Bocchio (clarinet), Vittorio Schiavone (horn), and Martina Lando (bassoon), featuring a program dedicated to the music of Danzi and Mozart.
16 masterclasses with the festival's featured artists, including Alessandro Denabian, Sarah Rumer, Riccardo Ceretta, Daniele Morandini, Valentino Zucchiatti, Paolo Pollastri, Gianluigi Caldarola, Federico Mondelci, รric Aubier, Achille Fait, Felix Renggli, Bastien Baumet, Enzo Turriziani, Laurent Ben Slimane, Ole Edvard Antonsen, and Maria Siracusa.
Concerts and masterclasses are held at the "F.lli Olivieri" Auditorium of the "Guido Cantelli" Conservatory, at Via Collegio Gallarini 1, in the center of Novara (28100).
Novara is easily accessible by train (the station is well-connected to Milan and Turin) and by car via the A4 and A26 motorways. The Auditorium is just a few minutes' walk from the station.
