Busso celebrates its patron saint on the night of the shooting stars
San Lorenzo is the patron saint of Busso, a municipality in the province of Campobasso nestled on the slopes overlooking the Matese mountains. The patronal festival, which falls on August 10th, is the most anticipated event of the summer for the Busso community and for the many emigrants who return to the village for the occasion.
The day begins with religious celebrations: a solemn mass in honor of the saint and a procession with the statue through the village streets. In the evening, the festival moves to the square, with music, shows, and convivial moments animating the historic center until nightfall.
San Lorenzo suffered martyrdom on a fiery gridiron: a meteorological and popular tradition links the shooting stars of August 10th to the sparks from that fire, making the festival night particularly evocative. For Busso, as for many Molise villages, the patronal festival remains a bastion of identity and community.
On August 10th, 2026, Busso renews the festival in honor of its patron saint San Lorenzo. The day includes a solemn mass and a procession with the saint's statue through the village streets, followed in the evening by music and entertainment in the square.
The detailed program for the 2026 patronal festival will be announced by the Municipality of Busso and the festival committee in the weeks prior. The traditional structure of the festival includes:
