The patron saint of Cusino

Saint John the Baptist is the patron saint of Cusino, a municipality of a few souls overlooking the Val Cavargna, one of the most picturesque and authentic valleys in the Como area, on the border with Switzerland. His feast day, set for June 24th, is the main religious and community event of the year.

A community festival

On the Sunday closest to June 24th, the solemn mass is celebrated in the parish church dedicated to the saint. A tradition particularly dear to the community is that during the service, the wedding anniversaries of the town's couples are also celebrated: an gesture that links the religious dimension to the family and emotional one, typical of small mountain communities.

The convivial moment

After the service, the festival moves to the square in front of the church, where stalls are set up and a lunch is organized for the population. It is an opportunity to gather around the typical dishes of Val Cavargna, in a spirit of sharing that also brings back those who have emigrated elsewhere.

Cusino is part of Val Cavargna, a pre-Alpine valley of Lake Como known for its mountain traditions, its pastures, and the culture of the magnani (itinerant pot menders).
