On December 8th, Hône celebrates the Micòoula, the ancient rye bread with chestnuts and dried fruit, ancestor of panettone
The Festa della Micòoula is the sagra (traditional festival) that every December 8th celebrates in Hône, in the lower Aosta Valley, its most cherished product: the Micòoula, a black bread made from wheat and rye flour, enriched with chestnuts, walnuts, dried figs, raisins, and chocolate chips. Recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of the Aosta Valley, it is considered the local ancestor of panettone.
Born as a festive bread, the Micòoula tells the story of the valley's peasant culture: a simple dough, made with local products, which over time became enriched with dried fruit, turning into a special occasion dessert. The festival celebrates its rediscovery and transmission, with bread-making and baking demonstrations also held at the Maison du Bon Grain.
On December 8th, the center of Hône comes alive with a market of typical Aosta Valley food products and crafts (woodworking, sculpture, wrought iron), stalls with zero-kilometer specialties, and festive moments. Christmas lights and mulled wine complete a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for the beginning of Advent. The Association Amis de la Micòoula organizes everything.
The Festa della Micòoula is one of the most beloved food and wine events in the Aosta Valley and, on December 8th, it ideally connects with the Christmas initiatives of nearby Bard, a village dominated by the imposing Forte. An opportunity to discover the flavors and traditions of this corner of the valley, amidst bread, chestnuts, and community warmth.
The 2026 edition of the Festa della Micòoula takes place in Hône on December 8th, with some initiatives in the preceding days. Organized by the Association Amis de la Micòoula, the festival features a market of typical food products and crafts, bread-making and baking demonstrations (also at the Maison du Bon Grain), and numerous stalls. The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the organizers in the weeks prior.
