The most evocative night of Numana's summer, between dawn concerts and the statue of the Madonna re-emerging from the sea
August 14th, the eve of Ferragosto, has long been the symbolic date of summer in Numana, the pearl of the Conero Riviera in the province of Ancona. On this day, the Marche municipality celebrates the Festival of the Madonna Assunta, one of the most heartfelt celebrations on the coast, intertwined with the famous Dawn Concert. Two distinct but complementary moments, which from dawn until late at night transform the upper village and the port into a large open-air stage.
It begins while it's still dark. As early as 4:30 AM, Piazza Nuova, in the heart of the historic center behind the church of the SS. Crocifisso, comes alive with spectators waiting for the sunrise. At 5:15 AM, the concert begins, led by maestro Marco Santini on violin, accompanied by a curated ensemble and the voice of a soprano. The music accompanies the transition from night to day, in an intimate and gathered atmosphere that has become a trademark of the event. Admission is free and no reservation is required: seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To facilitate arrival, the Municipality organizes free shuttle buses from the hamlets and campsites to the center.
The second part of the festival takes place by the sea. In the evening, around 9:15 PM, Numana's tourist port becomes the focal point of the religious celebration: the most evocative moment is the emergence of the statue of the Madonna from the waters, brought back to shore by fishermen and divers, in homage to a deeply rooted maritime tradition in the community. The scene, illuminated by candles held by the faithful on the shore and those floating on the water, accompanies the procession and the Holy Mass. The day concludes with a fireworks display over the sea, late in the evening, illuminating the Conero bay.
The Festival of the Madonna Assunta is rooted in Numana's maritime vocation: once a fishing village, today a renowned seaside resort in the Marche region, the town preserves its connection with the sea and popular devotion in this celebration. The rite of the statue's emergence, the warm light of the candles, and the fireworks make August 14th an event that goes beyond a summer festival, becoming a symbol of identity for the entire community of the province of Ancona.
On August 14, 2026, Numana renews the dual event of the Dawn Concert and the Festival of the Madonna Assunta. The day begins with music: at 5:15 AM in Piazza Nuova (historic center, behind the church of the SS. Crocifisso), with access to the area from 4:30 AM. The evening event takes place at the tourist port from 9:15 PM, with the emergence of the statue and the fireworks display. All events are free.
For the dawn concert, free shuttle buses are available from campsites and hamlets to the center, with departures in the early morning hours and returns around 08:00 AM.
