The grand festival dedicated to Cremona's symbolic sweet
The Festa del Torrone is the event that, every autumn, transforms the historic centre of Cremona, in Lombardy, into a grand celebration of torrone, the sweet that is both the city's symbol and identity. According to tradition, torrone was first made in Cremona in 1441, for the wedding banquet of Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza: its shape was said to resemble the Torrazzo, the city's famous bell tower. This legend gives life to a festival that blends gastronomy, history, and entertainment.
During the event, organised by SGP Grandi Eventi and promoted by the Municipality of Cremona and the Chamber of Commerce, the city streets are filled with stands from the best producers, giant nougat constructions, guided tastings, interactive workshops, and show cooking. The prestigious Torrone d'Oro award celebrates personalities from the world of culture and entertainment, while tourist itineraries and food and wine pairings in the city's restaurants complete the offering.
The highlight of the festival is the spectacular historical reenactment of the wedding between Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza, with a costume parade, extras, ladies, and knights who transport the city back to the 15th-century atmosphere. It is one of the most beloved events, capable of combining the charm of Renaissance history with the sweetness of torrone, in a crescendo that culminates in the grand finale of the festival.
For the Municipality of Cremona and the Province, the Festa del Torrone is one of the most important events of the year, attracting visitors from all over Italy and promoting an excellent product deeply linked to the territory's identity.
The 29th edition of the Festa del Torrone will be held in Cremona from November 7 to 22, 2026, and for the first time it will extend over 16 days distributed over three consecutive weekends, with programming also during the week. A "distributed" format designed to give visitors more time to experience the city.
The historic centre will host producers' stands, giant nougat constructions, sensory tastings, guided tours, and interactive workshops. The Torrone d'Oro award, tourist itineraries, food and wine pairings in restaurants, and the spectacular reenactment of the wedding between Bianca Maria Visconti and Francesco Sforza, with the usual grand finale, will all return. The event is organised by SGP Grandi Eventi.
