The patron saint's festival of Grumello Cremonese in the courtyard of Cascina Castello
The Sagra Patronale di San Bartolomeo celebrates the patron saint of Grumello Cremonese ed Uniti, a municipality in the plains in the province of Cremona. Saint Bartholomew the Apostle is celebrated on August 24th, and around this anniversary, the community gathers for two evenings of celebration in the charming courtyard of Cascina Castello, in Via Roma, one of the most characteristic settings in the village.
The soul of the sagra is the traditional cuisine: the signature dish is gnocchi, prepared and served by volunteers (and also available for takeaway), alongside skewers, salamelle (sausages), and Apulian friselle (rusks) with cheese. Simple and genuine cuisine, telling the story of the peasant table of the Cremonese area and attracting a large and loyal audience every year.
The two evenings alternate gastronomic moments with entertainment: on Saturday, the kitchen opens in the evening, while on Sunday, there is space for a musical aperitif and the giant tombola, an unmissable classic of village festivals. Organized by the Pro Loco of Grumello Cremonese together with local associations, the sagra is an example of how small rural communities know how to celebrate their patron saint, keeping traditions and bonds alive.
