The biennial festival of Rimini's fishermen's village, featuring Fellini-esque murals, music, and Romagna gastronomy
Festa de' Borg is one of the most beloved events in Rimini, the capital of the Romagna province in Emilia-Romagna. It takes place in the heart of Borgo San Giuliano, the ancient fishermen's district nestled at the foot of the Tiberius Bridge, across the Marecchia river from the historic center. Founded in 1979 to promote and revitalize the village, the festival is organized by the La Società de Borg Association and is held every two years: every other year, the maze of narrow streets and low, colorful houses comes alive for a few days in early September.
What makes Festa de' Borg unique is its natural setting. Borgo San Giuliano is famous for its murals, many of which are dedicated to Federico Fellini and his cinematic world, as well as decorated facades that tell the maritime history of this part of the city. During the festival, every corner, every small square, and every courtyard becomes a stage: the village transforms into a grand open-air theatre where folk traditions and Fellini's spirit coexist.
The festival's program is spread throughout the village. In previous editions, the Società de Borg has enlivened the event with dozens of artists performing at numerous stages each evening: live music, Romagna folk orchestras, DJ sets, folk dances, micro-theatre, exhibitions, and itinerant shows. Each edition is built around a different theme: the 2024 edition, titled Taca Biloz, celebrated a hundred years of music, dance, and the good life on the Riviera, from the post-war years to Rimini's clubbing scene.
The festival is also an opportunity to taste the cuisine of Romagna. Food stalls, managed by an army of village volunteers, offer traditional dishes: stuffed piadina, cappelletti, grilled sardoncini, Romagna wines, and desserts. There are also games, a charity raffle, and a grand lottery, the proceeds of which support the association's activities.
Behind Festa de' Borg is the work of hundreds of volunteers from Borgo San Giuliano, who spend months preparing sets, stalls, and shows. It is a community celebration before it is a tourist event: a way to celebrate the village's identity and the popular soul of Rimini. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is suitable for all ages, in one of the city's most evocative settings.
Festa de' Borg 2026 will take place from Friday, September 4th to Sunday, September 6th, 2026, in Rimini's Borgo San Giuliano. The dates have been confirmed by the official summer events schedule of the Municipality of Rimini, which describes the festival as capable of transforming one of the city's most beautiful areas into a widespread hub of culture and conviviality.
As a biennial event, 2026 marks the festival's return after the 2024 edition. Currently, the detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the theme, artists, schedules, and performance venues, has not yet been published by the organizers: it will be announced by the Società de Borg in the weeks leading up to the event. As per tradition, live music, folk dances, itinerant shows, and food stalls offering Romagna specialties are expected, with free admission.
The festival takes place in Borgo San Giuliano, Rimini, in the area of the Tiberius Bridge, a few minutes' walk from the historic center.
By train: Rimini station is about 1.5 km from the village, reachable on foot or by public transport. Free admission. Shows generally run from late afternoon until late evening, along the alleys and in the small squares of the village.
