Two days of colorful umbrellas, art, and sustainability in the Ferrari district of Serino
The Ferrari Color Fest takes place in the Ferrari district of the town of Serino, in the province of Avellino, in the green heart of Campania. For two days, the streets of the small village are covered by a canopy of suspended colorful umbrellas that filter the sunlight, turning alleys and squares into a path to be explored with your head held high. The name has nothing to do with the car brand: it comes simply from the district, one of the hamlets that make up the vast Serino territory, just over two kilometers from the town center.
The first edition dates back to 2019. The idea, simple yet visionary, came from the Saint John the Baptist Festival Committee: umbrellas suspended over the streets, street artists, live music, and local gastronomy, all packed into two days. Since then, the event has grown year after year in creativity and participation, becoming one of the most recognizable fixtures in the Irpinia events calendar. Its timing is no coincidence: the Color Fest precedes the patronal feast of Saint John the Baptist on June 24th by a few hours, serving as its secular and festive prologue.
In recent years, the festival has added a precise message to its vibrant colors. All decorative installations are crafted from recycled materials, selected and gathered directly from nature or salvaged from everyday life, in line with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and respect for the local area. The result is a widespread display that does more than just decorate; it tells a story of a different way to look at objects and waste.
The Ferrari Color Fest is, first and foremost, a family celebration. Alongside the installations, there are shows, mascots, costumed characters, robots, and fantastic figures designed to amaze children, as well as creative workshops where the little ones can get hands-on. The performances also involve local associationsโmusic schools, dance groups, and local sports clubsโin a format that remains deeply community-driven: it is the residents themselves who build much of what visitors walk through.
Serino is located at the foot of the Picentini Mountains, in one of the most water-rich areas of Campania: the aqueduct that supplied the Vesuvius and Phlegraean areas in Roman times started from the Serino springs, and water remains one of the town's defining elements today. The territory is dotted with hamlets and districts scattered among chestnut groves, which make the valley cool and lush green in summer. Those arriving for the Color Fest will find, beyond the festival itself, a natural setting that is worth the detour from nearby Avellino.
The event is traditionally scheduled for June 22nd and 23rd, just before the patronal feast. The fifth edition took place on June 22-23, 2025, and the sixth on June 22-23, 2026, always in the Ferrari district, with Piazza Cicarelli serving as the focal point for the installations and shows.
On June 22 and 23, 2026, the Ferrari district of Serino (Avellino) lit up for the sixth edition of the Ferrari Color Fest, promoted by the Saint John the Baptist Festival Committee. The small village transformed into an open-air stage where music, art, shows, and typical flavors merged into a unique festive atmosphere.
The absolute protagonists, as per tradition, were the thousand colorful umbrellas suspended above the streets of the district. Alongside them, a widespread display of decorative installations built from recycled materials, in line with the environmental message that has become the hallmark of the event in recent years.
The program alternated artistic performances, creative workshops, and moments of pure entertainment, with special encounters dedicated to the little ones: fantastic robots and surprising characters accompanied children along the colorful path. An edition that confirmed the Color Fest as a reference point for the Irpinia summer, capable of combining tradition, creativity, and community spirit.

The route is entirely pedestrian: comfortable shoes and a camera are the right equipment. The suspended umbrellas look their best in the late afternoon, when the grazing light ignites the colors, and after sunset with the lights on. Park in the areas along the main road and enter the village on foot, as the internal streets are narrow and largely occupied by the installations.
