The free concert on August 15th in Piazza Michele Addesa, Vallesaccarda
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
On August 15th, when Irpinia empties of its daily work routine and fills with those returning home, Vallesaccarda gathers in Piazza Michele Addesa. This is the setting for Ferragosto in Piazza, the highlight of the summer in this small town in the Province of Avellino, Campania, overlooking the hills of the Baronia, not far from Trevico, Vallata, and Scampitella.
The formula is the simple, time-tested one of Southern village festivals: a free open-air concert, food stalls set up around the square, and a DJ set that takes over once the stage lights go down. No tickets, no fences: you arrive, sit on the steps, or stand under the stage, and for one night, the square becomes the living room of the entire Baronia.
What changes from year to year is the name on the stage. Every summer, the municipal administration and local associations build a program that culminates on Ferragosto evening with a guest capable of drawing crowds from all the neighboring towns. In the 2025 edition, the choice fell on Nomadi, one of the longest-running and most beloved bands in Italian music, who took the stage in Piazza Michele Addesa at 9:30 PM with completely free admission.
It is a choice that speaks volumes about the character of the event: not a niche festival, but a popular evening designed to bring three generations together, from children running between the stalls to grandparents sitting in the front row. Over the years, the square has hosted diverse repertoires—Italian singer-songwriter music, Neapolitan music, light entertainment—while keeping the core idea intact: live music as an opportunity for community gathering.
Piazza Michele Addesa is the center of social life in Vallesaccarda and hosts most of the summer events: here the stage and lights are set up, here the food stalls are arranged, and here the audience gathers. The intimate layout of the space, surrounded by the houses of the town center, restores that sense of proximity that large city festivals have long since lost: the audience is just a few meters from the musicians, and the acoustics of the square do the rest.
Ferragosto in Piazza is not an isolated event but the peak of a calendar that the town builds every year with the contribution of local entities—the ProLoco Vallesaccarda APS, the Youth Forum, and sports and volunteer associations. In the summer of 2025, for example, the program extended from early July until August 24th and included, among other events:
Those arriving for the Ferragosto concert will therefore find a town already in full swing, with walks along the Fiumarella, food festivals, shows, and opportunities to taste Irpinian cuisine.
The Baronia is one of the least-traveled areas of Campania, and for this very reason, it maintains an authentic relationship with its festivals. Ferragosto in Piazza is not built for tourists: it is the party the town throws for itself, and anyone is welcome to join. For those spending the summer in Irpinia, or for those traveling through inland Campania toward Puglia, it is the most direct way to understand what Ferragosto still means today in a village of the Southern Apennines.
For the summer of 2026, the Municipality of Vallesaccarda has presented its "Vallesaccarda Estate" program, but the detailed schedule for the Ferragosto evening in Piazza Michele Addesa has not yet been published at the time of writing this entry.
There is therefore no information to indicate a name on stage: the official 2026 tour calendar for Nomadi, guests of the previous edition, does not include stops in Vallesaccarda, and no local source has announced the artist for the 2026 edition so far.
Those intending to attend should consider the date as indicative and check the official channels of the Municipality and the ProLoco Vallesaccarda APS as soon as the summer program is detailed. We will update this entry with dates, times, and program as soon as they are announced.
Piazza Michele Addesa, in the center of Vallesaccarda (83050), Province of Avellino, Campania. The concert and food stalls are concentrated in the square and surrounding streets.
By car: the reference motorway exits on the A16 Naples-Canosa are Grottaminarda and Lacedonia, from which you continue along the provincial roads of the Baronia. The town is a few dozen kilometers from Ariano Irpino and the border with Puglia.
By train and plane: the reference hubs are the Ariano Irpino station and, for long-distance connections, Avellino and Naples; the final leg must be covered by car, as evening connections to the small towns of the Baronia are limited.
In recent editions, the evening has been held with free admission, with the concert starting around 9:30 PM followed by a DJ set. Food stalls are active from the evening.
On August 15th, the square fills up quickly: it is advisable to arrive well in advance to find parking in the town center streets. August evenings in the Baronia, at over 600 meters above sea level, can be cool after midnight: it is best to bring a light sweatshirt. For overnight stays, the widest selection is in the neighboring towns and the Ariano Irpino area.
