The patronal feast of Congiunti, blending devotion with vibrant live music
In the village of Congiunti, a small community within the municipality of Collecorvino in the Province of Pescara, the Feast of the Risen Christ and Saint Nunzio Sulprizio returns every June as one of the most cherished events for the local community. It is a patronal feast in the most authentic sense: the parish and the residents gather to honor the Risen Christ and the figure of Saint Nunzio Sulprizio, transforming summer evenings into a shared celebration open to the entire region.
Devotion to Saint Nunzio Sulprizio has deep roots in this part of Abruzzo. Nunzio Sulprizio was born in 1817 in Pescosansonesco, not far from here, also in the Province of Pescara. Orphaned as a child and starting work as a blacksmith at a very young age, he eventually became the patron saint of workers and those who suffer. Canonized by Pope Francis in 2018, he is now one of the most beloved figures in the Pescara valley, and in Congiunti, his memory is intertwined with the feast of the Risen Christ in a unique popular celebration.
Alongside the religious observances, the beating heart of the festival is music. Organized by Power Eventi, the event features free evening concerts that attract families, young people, and curious visitors from neighboring towns. On the stage set up in the village, cover bands and tribute acts alternate, ranging from the great classics of Italian music to high-energy dance rhythms, all in a cheerful and informal square atmosphere. Admission is always free, and the shows begin late in the evening, when the air cools down and the square fills up.
Despite being the festival of a small village, the Congiunti Feast has become a local summer classic, capable of attracting visitors from across the entire Province of Pescara. It is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Abruzzo hills, blending the tradition of patronal feasts with the communal spirit that characterizes the festivals and sagre of this region.
