The celebrations in honor of Saint Venantius the Martyr, with the torch from Camerino
The Feast of the Patron Saint of San Venanzo, a municipality in the province of Terni at the foot of Monte Peglia, is celebrated on May 18th in honor of Saint Venantius the Martyr. It is the most cherished religious and civil event of the year for the community, which gives the town its very name.
Among the most evocative elements of the festival is the arrival of the torch lit at the saint's tomb in Camerino, in the Marche region: the flame is brought to the locality 'Traccio di Santo Venanzio', the place where tradition places the martyr's passage from Camerino and where Holy Mass is celebrated outdoors, near a natural spring. A gesture that symbolically links San Venanzo to the history and places of its patron saint.
On May 18th, in the afternoon, Holy Mass is followed by the traditional procession through the town's streets, with the statue and banner of Saint Venantius the Martyr and the participation of the San Venanzo Musical Band. A festival that unites faith, community, and local identity in the heart of Umbria, in a village nestled in the green of Monte Peglia.
For 2026, the Feast of the Patron Saint of San Venanzo returns on the occasion of May 18th. As per tradition, on the Sunday preceding, the arrival of the torch lit at the saint's tomb in Camerino is planned, with Mass celebrated at the locality 'Traccio di Santo Venanzio'. On May 18th, in the afternoon, Holy Mass precedes the procession through the town streets with the statue and banner of Saint Venantius the Martyr and the participation of the Musical Band. The detailed schedule will be confirmed by the Parish and the Municipality of San Venanzo in the weeks prior.
