The Feast of Saints Cuono and Conello is the most heartfelt religious and popular event in Acerra, a town in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania. Every year, around May 29th, the entire community gathers around its two patron saints, 3rd-century Eastern martyrs venerated in Acerra for over a thousand years as witnesses of faith and defenders of the city's civic life.
Tradition remembers Saints Cuono and his Son (Conello) as Christian martyrs executed on May 29th in the year 275 following torture. The date of the festival refers precisely to the day of their martyrdom. The cult, deeply rooted in the area, makes the two saints an identity reference point for the people of Acerra, who celebrate them with great participation from priests, religious orders, confraternities, authorities, and ordinary citizens.
The festivities follow a traditional structure every year that weaves together liturgical moments and popular devotion:
Surrounding the liturgical celebrations is the traditional village festival: the streets and squares of the historic center light up with illuminations, fill with market stalls selling local products and sweets, and host concerts and musical performances. The day concludes, according to the Campanian custom, with a fireworks display that illuminates the sky of Acerra, a festive seal on an unbroken devotion.
More than just an event, the Feast of Saints Cuono and Conello is a moment in which Acerra rediscovers its roots. Faith, tradition, and popular spirituality merge in a celebration that unites generations and renews the bond between the city and its patrons every year, in a corner of Campania rich in history just a few kilometers from Naples.
In 2026, Acerra once again celebrated its patrons, Saints Cuono and Conello, around the fixed date of May 29th. The festival followed the traditional structure: transfer of the statues to the Cathedral, preparatory triduum, solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Bishop of Acerra, and the well-attended procession along the streets of the city center, accompanied by clergy, confraternities, and the marching band. Alongside the religious moments, the secular festival enlivened the streets with illuminations, market stalls, and music, culminating in the customary final fireworks display.
The celebrations are concentrated in the Cathedral of Acerra (Piazza Duomo) and along the streets of the city's historic center, in the province of Naples.
By car: Acerra can be reached from the A1 motorway and the Asse Mediano (exits for Acerra), about 20 km from Naples. By train: the Acerra station is served by the EAV Naples-Baiano/Circumvesuviana line and regional connections. By plane: Naples-Capodichino Airport, about 15 km away.
Free admission to religious celebrations and the secular festival. For the detailed program of the current year, it is recommended to consult the Diocese of Acerra and the official pages dedicated to San Cuono and Conello.
