The historical re-enactment of Vignate's feudal redemption
The Feast of Redemption re-enacts a real episode from the history of Vignate, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Milan: in 1691, the inhabitants redeemed themselves from the feudal yoke by collecting the sum necessary to free themselves from the lords' constraints. It is this collective gesture that the festival re-stages every year, on the first Sunday after Easter.
The heart of the event is the historical pageant on Sunday afternoon, with over forty costumed participants parading through the town center. The ritual of the coin and typical dessert presentation, the Ugaroëula, is renewed in memory of the redemption. The re-enactment is accompanied by magic shows and live music.
Around the historical moment, three days of events unfold: concerts, DJ sets, and artistic performances in the squares, exhibitions by local sports associations, a refreshment area, and a program dedicated to younger audiences. The international dimension is also present, with the participation of the delegation from Gières, a French town twinned with Vignate.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Vignate with the support of the municipal administration, which has been promoting the rediscovery of the town's historical and cultural heritage since 1996.
From April 10th to 12th, 2026, Vignate travels back in time with the Feast of Redemption. The three days alternate artistic performances, dances, concerts, DJ sets, street food, parades, and activities by local associations. On Sunday afternoon, the historical pageant takes place with over forty participants in period costumes, followed by the re-enactment of the 1691 redemption with the presentation of coins and the typical Ugaroëula dessert. Among the offerings are also the Play Days, with a LEGO-themed exhibition and games at the Centro Polifunzionale, and the participation of the twinned delegation from Gières.
Vignate is located along the Milan-Bergamo route, in the Metropolitan City of Milan, and is served by the train station on the Milan-Treviglio railway line. By car, it can be reached from the SP103 Cassanese.
The events are held in the historic center, in Piazza del Comune, and in the surrounding public spaces, with activities also at the Centro Polifunzionale.
