The February celebrations for the patron saint of Stroncone
Blessed Antonio Vici is the patron saint of Stroncone, a small village in the province of Terni in Umbria. A Franciscan friar from Stroncone, his memory is preserved in the Sanctuary of Blessed Antonio and the Convent of San Francesco, where his body rests. While the summer celebrations (August) commemorate his translation from Assisi, the February feast is dedicated to his transit, that is, his passage to eternal life, and has an intimate and profoundly spiritual character.
The celebrations are structured around a triduum of preparation and culminate on the day of the transit, with solemn masses presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia and community moments that involve the entire town. A characteristic convivial event is "Quel che passa il convento" (What the convent provides), a community dinner that invites a rediscovery of the Convent of San Francesco.
The 2026 edition takes on a special significance as it is part of the Franciscan Jubilee: the faithful have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Penance and obtain Plenary Indulgence. A pilgrimage "On the Footsteps of Blessed Antonio" traverses the places linked to his life, among the churches of the village.
The 2026 edition, part of the Franciscan Jubilee, took place from February 5 to 8. The central moment, on Saturday, February 7, featured the solemn morning mass at the Convent and, at 6:00 PM, the celebration presided over by Bishop Francesco Antonio Soddu at the Convent of San Francesco, followed by the community dinner "Quel che passa il convento". The triduum on February 5-6 included the award ceremony for a school competition and the rite of the Anointing of the Sick. The feast concluded on Sunday, February 8, with the pilgrimage "On the Footsteps of Blessed Antonio".
Stroncone is about 12 km from Terni, reachable by car from the SS Flaminia or the E45 (Terni exit). The Convent of San Francesco and the Sanctuary are in the center of the village.
The religious celebrations are open to all and free of charge. For the community dinner, booking at the parish is recommended.
