Over thirty years of friendship between Tuscia and Provence
The Farnese / Beaumont-de-Pertuis Twinning is much more than a summer event: it is a bond of brotherhood that has united the Municipality of Farnese, in the Province of Viterbo (Lazio), and the town of Beaumont-de-Pertuis, in Provence, for over thirty years. The pact was solemnly signed on July 11, 1993, in the main square of the Lazio village, when the mayors of both communities read the "Oath of Brotherhood," committing to build a piece of Europe together, made of people rather than just institutions.
The heart of the twinning is the annual exchange, which traditionally takes place in mid-July. The format alternates between the two communities: one year the citizens of Farnese travel to Provence, and the following year, Farnese families host the French delegation in their homes. There are no hotels or commercial programs: guests experience the daily lives of their host families, sharing meals, habits, and affection.
Farnese is a small village in the Tuscia region, overlooking the Selva del Lamone and rich in history linked to the Farnese dynasty. Beaumont-de-Pertuis is a municipality in the Vaucluse, in the heart of Provence. The meeting of these two rural realities, geographically distant but similar in size and spirit, has created an authentic cultural exchange experience, carried forward by the twinning committees with the support of the Municipality of Farnese.
Over the years, the twinning has gone beyond reciprocal visits. The two committees have also shared solidarity initiatives, such as collecting eyeglasses for humanitarian projects, a testament to a friendship that looks beyond the borders of the two towns. Involving young people and passing on the value of cross-cultural encounters remain at the heart of an experience that continues to renew itself summer after summer.
For 2026, the twinning exchange followed tradition by reversing the hosting role: from July 10 to 14, the Farnese delegation was hosted by the families of Beaumont-de-Pertuis, returning the visit that had brought the Provençal friends to Farnese the previous year. The program, as always, prioritized the human dimension of the encounter: home hospitality, convivial feasts, singing, and festive moments, alongside official meetings between the committees and local administrations.
Upon their return, the village of Farnese continued its summer celebrations with traditional local initiatives, keeping the spirit of sharing that characterizes the twinning alive. The 2026 edition confirmed the strength of a relationship that, since 1993, continues to grow year after year.
When hosted in Italy, exchange activities take place in the historic center of Farnese (VT) and in the homes of host families. During the reciprocal visit year, the Farnese delegation travels to Beaumont-de-Pertuis, in Provence.
Farnese is located in the upper Tuscia region of Viterbo. By car: from the SS Cassia or SR Maremmana, take the exits toward Valentano and Farnese. By train: the nearest stations are Montalto di Castro or Viterbo, followed by bus connections. The most convenient airport is Rome Fiumicino.
The exchange is organized by the Twinning Committee and is aimed at citizens and families who wish to join. The public side events that enliven the village in July are free and open to everyone.
