The summer theatre festival in Piazza Capuano
Falciano Teatro is the summer theatre event that the Municipality of Falciano del Massico, a small town in the Upper Caserta area of Campania, dedicates to its residents and visitors every year. Originally a local event, it has grown over the years to become one of the most popular cultural highlights in the province of Caserta, attracting actors, comedians, and nationally acclaimed theatre companies to the main square. The 2026 edition marks the fifth consecutive year of programming.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Capuano, which transforms into an open-air stage throughout the summer. Performances typically begin at 9:00 PM, as the heat fades and the square fills with spectators of all ages. The format focuses on high-quality popular theatre, ranging from brilliant comedies to actor monologues, and from classical prose to magic, with a special emphasis on family audiences.
Each season offers a diverse programme that alternates beloved television and theatre faces with more sophisticated performances. Alongside big names from Neapolitan and national comedy, the stage hosts auteur theatre and reinterpretations of classical repertoire, including forays into ancient theatre that evoke the roots of Magna Graecia. This variety is the hallmark of Falciano Teatro, designed to offer a small town a programme worthy of a major city.
One of the defining features of the festival is that it is free of charge: all performances are open to the public, reflecting the Municipal Administration's commitment to making culture accessible to everyone. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Falciano del Massico, through the Department of Culture, in collaboration with local businesses, and represents a key element of the summer cultural offering in the entire Province of Caserta.
The 5th edition of Falciano Teatro confirms the formula of high-quality popular theatre in Piazza Capuano, with free evening shows throughout the summer. The 2026 edition is hosted by patron Simona Cavallari and features a programme ranging from comedy to auteur monologues, as well as ancient theatre with a Greek-inspired "Andromache". The event is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Falciano del Massico, led by Mayor Giovanni Erasmo Fava with the Councillor for Culture, Rosa Maria Zannone.
The programme also includes a performance of ancient theatre with "Andromache", highlighting the link with Magna Graecia.
Performances take place in Piazza Capuano, in Falciano del Massico (81030), in the province of Caserta.
Falciano del Massico can be reached by car from the Cassino motorway exit or via the SS7 Appia road; the Falciano-Mondragone-Carinola railway station is on the Rome–Naples line via Formia. It is easily accessible from Caserta and Naples in about an hour.
Evenings generally begin at 9:00 PM. Admission to all performances is free.
As these are open-air performances in the square, it is advisable to arrive a little early to secure a seat on nights featuring the most anticipated performers.
