A weekend to discover the hidden treasures of the Pordenone area
Every spring, the FAI - Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano organizes the FAI Spring Days throughout Italy, two days when historic homes, palaces, churches, gardens, and industrial sites normally closed are opened to the public. It's the perfect opportunity to discover hidden heritage, guided by FAI volunteers and young apprentice cicerones, students who share stories about the places in their city.
In the city, the extraordinary opening concerns the Antico Ospitale dei Battuti, overlooking Piazzetta del Cristo: an ancient medieval charitable institution that houses 16th-century frescoes attributed to the circle of Pordenone, the great Renaissance painter to whom the city owes its artistic name. A precious place, a testament to the history of welfare and sacred art in western Friuli.
The FAI Delegation of Pordenone also focuses its proposals on Polcenigo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, where noble palaces and historic mills are opened: from the Mulino Faletti-Sanchini to the Palazzo Scolari-Salice with its 13th-century portico and Italian garden, from the Palazzo Polcenigo-Manin-Zaro to the Palazzetto Diana-Santarossa overlooking the Gorgazzo, one of the most evocative springs in the region.
Visiting the FAI Spring Days sites also means concretely supporting the protection of Italian heritage, thanks to the voluntary contributions collected during the openings. A way to rediscover the Pordenone territory in view of 2027, when Pordenone will be the Italian Capital of Culture.
The 2026 edition, the thirty-fourth, confirms the pairing between Pordenone city and the village of Polcenigo. In the city, the Antico Ospitale dei Battuti opens with its 16th-century frescoes; in Polcenigo, the FAI Delegation offers an itinerary through mills and noble palaces.
