Music brings the village to life on the summer solstice
Every June 21st, coinciding with the summer solstice, all of Europe celebrates the European Music Festival, an event born in France in 1982 that has since spread to thousands of cities across the continent. Montelepre, a town of just over six thousand inhabitants in the hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily, also joins the initiative, bringing music to the squares and alleys of its historic center. For two days, the village turns into a grand open-air stage where professionals, amateurs, emerging bands, and soloists of all genres perform for free for residents and visitors alike.
The 2026 edition revolves around the theme "Unity Makes Music," an invitation to rediscover harmony, the cross-pollination of genres, and the pleasure of conviviality. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Montelepre in collaboration with the Pro Loco Montelepre and the Amadeus Association, with the support of the Regional Department for Productive Activities, and is part of the national Festa della Musica Italia circuit.
The weekend of music kicks off on Saturday, June 20th at the Torre Ventimiglia, an ancient fortress overlooking the town: from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the "Taste, Art, and Music" event offers guided tours of the manor and tastings of local specialties, from traditional pasta to De.Co. certified products. In the evening, at 9:00 PM, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Luigi Piovano, takes the stage set up in the former basketball court on Via Francesco Purpura for a concert featuring works by Rossini, Tchaikovsky, and Dvoลรกk: a prestigious event for such a small village.
The highlight is Sunday, June 21st, the official date of the solstice: from 9:15 PM, along Via della Torre, the Wind Orchestra and the Amadeus Choir perform; from 10:30 PM, the festivities continue with a live concert featuring local groups and artists. The evening is hosted by Gianni Buffa.
The European Music Festival in Montelepre is more than just a series of concerts: it is an opportunity to showcase the village's heritage, from the striking Torre Ventimiglia to its municipal designation (De.Co.) gastronomic products. Admission to all events is free, in keeping with the popular and participatory spirit of the festival, which makes music a shared good accessible to everyone.

Montelepre is located in the hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Palermo, about 35 km from the regional capital. By car, it can be reached via the A29 motorway (Giardinello-Montelepre exit) or the SS113 road. Bus connections are available from Palermo.
Saturday, June 20th and Sunday, June 21st, during the summer solstice period. Evening performances begin after 9:00 PM.
All events are free to attend. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for walking through the historic center and arriving early for the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra concert.
