Arezzo's grand cultural summer at the Medici Fortress
Since the summer of 2022, the Medici Fortress of Arezzo has hosted Estate in Fortezza, a festival that brings the 16th-century bastion overlooking the historic center of the Tuscan city to life for nearly two months. Promoted by the Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo in collaboration with the Municipality of Arezzo, the event has quickly established itself as the go-to summer appointment for local culture, filling July and August evenings with a diverse and engaging program.
The beauty of Estate in Fortezza lies in its variety: a single festival where pop concerts and scientific lectures, comedy shows and contemporary dance, live radio talk shows and tributes to singer-songwriters coexist. Each evening is designed as a unique event, but the common thread remains the high quality of the offerings and the desire to reach a broad, curious audience, from young people to families.
The choice of location is no coincidence. The Medici Fortress, commissioned by the Medici family in the 16th century and returned to the city after an extensive restoration, offers a unique green and panoramic space in Arezzo. Evenings are typically held outdoors, with the sun setting over the rooftops of the historic center and the ancient walls serving as a natural backdrop. Over the years, the festival has often engaged with the major exhibitions hosted within the Fortress, further enriching the cultural offerings of the Arezzo summer.
Estate in Fortezza is now an integral part of the summer identity of Arezzo and its province, in the heart of eastern Tuscany. The festival attracts both local residents and the many visitors who choose Arezzo during the warmer months for its Renaissance squares, gold workshops, and the events that define its calendar. An evening at the Fortress is the best way to experience the city after sunset, combining culture, music, and the special atmosphere of a rediscovered monument.
The 2026 edition of Estate in Fortezza confirms the formula that has made the festival one of the most beloved events of the Arezzo summer: nearly two months of events at the Medici Fortress of Arezzo, featuring music, entertainment, dance, and meetings. The first major name announced is Giorgio Panariello, who brings his show E se domani… to the Fortress. The rest of the program will be communicated by the Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo in the weeks preceding the event.
The complete schedule for the 2026 edition of Estate in Fortezza is announced progressively by the Fondazione Guido d'Arezzo in the weeks leading up to summer. Below are the already confirmed appointments.
The program will be updated with other concerts, theatrical shows, talks, and dance events as soon as they are made public by the organization.
The show E se domani… by Giorgio Panariello (July 10 and 12), one of the most anticipated dates of the Arezzo summer, included in a lineup that every year alternates major names in Italian music, theater, and entertainment.
The Medici Fortress is located in the historic center of Arezzo, reachable on foot from the train station in about 15 minutes (Rome-Florence line, Arezzo stop). By car, take the Arezzo exit on the A1 motorway and use the parking areas in the city center.
Tickets for individual shows can be purchased primarily through the TicketOne and Ticketmaster networks and via the Discover Arezzo portal. Some events offer free admission.
