Summer in Bellegra in the Prenestini Mountains

Every year, between late July and mid-August, the Municipality of Bellegra and the Pro Loco animate the village with the Estate Bellegrana, a long-running festival that gathers the town's main summer events into a single calendar. Perched on the Prenestini Mountains and known as the "City of Panoramas," Bellegra offers a blend of religious tradition, live music, gastronomy, and social gatherings for both residents and visitors.

The Patronal Feast of San Sisto II P.M.

The most anticipated moment is the Patronal Feast of San Sisto II Pope and Martyr, celebrated in early August. The religious program includes solemn vespers and an evening procession accompanied by the Bellegra Marching Band, followed the next day by holy masses and the procession of the Saint's Reliquary Bust and Scepter. Devotion to San Sisto is rooted in the long history of the village, which belonged to the Territorial Abbey of Subiaco until 2002 and is now part of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Palestrina.

Concerts, Shows, and Traditional Fair

Alongside the religious dimension, the patronal feast is accompanied by high-profile evenings: free concerts in Piazza del Municipio featuring Italian music guests, a spectacular fireworks display to close the festivities, and, the following day, the traditional livestock and goods fair that fills the town streets from the early morning hours.

A Month of Events for Everyone

The Estate Bellegrana does not end with the patronal feast. The calendar offers numerous appointments throughout August:

• the Feast of the Pardon of Assisi at the Convent of San Francesco, at the beginning of the month;
• street food evenings, DJ sets, and craft markets in the town center;
• dance recitals, ballroom dancing evenings, watermelon festivals, and choral performances;
• the Assumption celebrations on August 15th, with a procession and the traditional "inchinata";
• neighborhood parties with local food in various districts of the village.

Deeply felt by the population, the Estate Bellegrana marks the beginning of the summer season in the Prenestini Mountains. Strolling through the historic center of Bellegra during these days means breathing in the authentic atmosphere of a Lazio village, amidst popular devotion, music, traditional flavors, and the panoramas overlooking the Aniene Valley.
