Cinema arrives on Guadetto beach

For the first time, the big screen lands on the sand of Bolsena: on July 8, 2026, Guadetto beach, located on the lakefront of this town in the province of Viterbo, will transform into an open-air cinema. Forget numbered seats or red velvet; here, an inflatable screen is set up facing the water, with the audience invited to bring mats, air mattresses, or folding chairs. We recommend arriving early to secure a good spot. The free screening begins at 9:30 PM, with Lake Bolsena providing a natural backdrop for the film under the stars.

The evening opens with «Diamanti» by Ferzan Ozpetek, a choral portrait of a tailoring atelier and the women who bring it to life. The choice of a recent, beloved film sets the tone for an event designed as a collective experience: watching quality cinema while lying on the beach, framed by the sound of the waves and the summer sky. The Mayor of Bolsena, Andrea Di Sorte, highlighted the town's pride in hosting a beach screening for the first time, calling it a truly unique experience.

The debut of the EFF/Lake Bolsena circuit

The Bolsena event inaugurates the EFF/Lake Bolsena circuit, an open-air cinema network that will bring life to the lakeside villages from July 8 to August 13, 2026. The heart of the event remains the Est Film Festival in Montefiascone, which celebrates its twentieth edition in 2026 (July 20–26), featuring a competition dedicated to debut Italian films. Surrounding this core are stops in other municipalities: the festivals in Valentano («Cinema tra le righe»), Capodimonte, Marta, Gradoli, Grotte di Castro, and San Lorenzo Nuovo, each with its own theme, ranging from literature and fantasy to the relationship between man and nature.

Bolsena is one of twelve locations in the Lazio region selected by the regional Film Commission. Its stop is part of a cultural promotion project supported by the Lazio Region, the Ministry of Culture, the Fondazione Carivit, and the participating municipalities. The organization is managed by the Factotum A.P.S. Cultural Association of Montefiascone. More than just a single screening, the evening on Guadetto beach tells the underlying story of the initiative: turning Lake Bolsena and its villages into one large, diffused cinema, capable of uniting the towns of Tuscia in a shared summer program.
