In Campolieto, a village in the province of Campobasso, an ancient tradition is renewed on the night between January 5th and 6th: the Epiphany caroling, known locally as "la Pasquetta". It is one of the rites that close the Christmas holiday cycle in the towns of Molise.
From Door to Door Until Dawn
The caroling is performed from house to house: according to custom, first the boys go around the village until midnight, then young people in groups continue until morning. Families welcome the singers and reward them with gifts, in an exchange that strengthens community ties in the heart of winter.
A Regional Tradition
Campolieto's Pasquetta is not an isolated case: the Epiphany caroling is shared with the neighboring villages of Bonefro and Toro, testifying to a common popular culture that spans this area of the province of Campobasso. Together with the New Year's Maitunata, it represents one of the most characteristic traditional songs of the town.

On the night between January 5th and 6th, 2026, Campolieto experienced its Pasquetta: the Epiphany caroling performed from door to door. According to tradition, first the boys went around the village until midnight, then young people in groups continued until morning, receiving gifts from families.
A spontaneous and participatory rite, which in Campolieto closes the Christmas festivities cycle and renews a custom shared with the neighboring villages of Bonefro and Toro.
