Ensemble! – Sounds and Flavors from the World

A festival built by communities, not for them

Ensemble! – Sounds and Flavors from the World was born in December 2025 as one of the four "islands" of Arcipelago Metropolitano – Common Routes, Solidary Horizons, the Christmas festival promoted by ATCL with the contribution of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, strongly supported by the delegated councilor Tiziana Biolghini. The island dedicated to cultures and flavors was established at Fusolab 3.0, in the Municipality of Rome, Alessandrino district, on the eastern outskirts of the capital.

The project's uniqueness lies in its method: cultural and gastronomic content is not selected from above but curated directly by the foreign communities present in the area. Each group brings its own music, dance steps, and cuisine, and the festival acts as a shared square. It is a choice that says a lot about today's Rome, a city where dozens of communities coexist in peripheral neighborhoods without often having a common stage.

Music: a trip around the world in two days

The musical program is the heart of the event. On the Fusolab stage, groups representing very different traditions take turns: Romanian, Cape Verdean, Mozambican, Andean, Senegalese, and Latin American music, with forays into contemporary world music and the hybrid sounds produced right here in Rome. The shows follow one another seamlessly from the early afternoon until evening, alternating full concerts, traditional dance groups, and instrumental ensembles.

Alongside the concerts, there is space for screenings, meetings, and moments of dialogue, designed to provide context to what is being heard and tasted.

Street food: eleven cuisines under one roof

The gastronomic section is equally ambitious. The street food stalls cover an unusual range for a Roman event: Congo, Mozambique, Italy, Romania, Cape Verde, Bangladesh, Peru, Kurdistan, Ethiopia, Bolivia, Mali-Niger-Cameroon, and Pakistan. These are not generic commercial stands but kitchens managed by the communities themselves, with dishes rarely found in the city's restaurant circuits.

Fusolab, a key space in the Roman periphery

Fusolab is not a neutral location. Born as a cultural association, it has been a bastion of social innovation in Rome's eastern suburbs for years: courses, a popular gym, technological labs, concerts, and activities for children. Hosting Ensemble! here, rather than in the historic center, is part of the festival's message: the idea of a "diffused place" between Rome and the province, with a decidedly multi-ethnic focus.

Who attends and why

The event targets a wide audience: neighborhood families, world music enthusiasts, those curious about underrepresented cuisines, and visitors in the Lazio region looking for something different from classic tourist attractions during the Christmas and New Year period. Admission is free, with booking recommended, and the continuous hours from morning to evening allow for even a short visit.

An event to keep an eye on

In its first edition, Ensemble! recorded a positive public response, as did the entire Arcipelago Metropolitano festival. At the moment, the next edition has not yet been officially announced: those interested can follow the channels of Fusolab and the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, where the Christmas program is usually released between late October and November.
