Tredozio's Easter and Easter Monday in the sign of the egg, between rival districts and Romagna tradition
Every year, during the Easter and Easter Monday holidays, the village of Tredozio, in the Province of Forlì-Cesena (Emilia-Romagna), transforms into the stage for one of the most original and long-standing popular events in Romagna: the Egg Festival and Palio. A tradition that dates back to 1964 and which, edition after edition, has managed to preserve its genuine and jovial spirit, becoming an unmissable event for residents and for the many visitors who come to the Tramazzo valley.
The beating heart of the festival is the friendly rivalry between the four districts into which the town is divided: Borgo, Nuovo, Piazza, and Casone. Each district prepares its team, sets up floats for the allegorical parade, and gets ready to compete for the Palio through a series of challenges, all with one common denominator: the egg. The atmosphere of healthy competition, filled with colors, flags, and cheers, involves the entire community and offers an authentic spectacle, far from the tourist-driven logic of large events.
The program brings together historical and curious competitions that have developed over the decades:
Special mention goes to the historic Egg Challenge with the Marche town of Arcevia (Ancona), a jovial twinning that has been renewed for over forty years.
The festival is also a grand gastronomic celebration: stands and food trucks offer the great classics of Romagna cuisine, from piadina to bartolaccio (a typical savory pastry from the valley), including polenta and the inevitable tagliatelle al ragù. On the eve of the festival, the four districts prepare the traditional propitiatory dinner in the square, a convivial moment that officially inaugurates the celebrations.
In recent years, Tredozio and its valley have been severely affected by the 2023 flood and seismic events: the Egg Festival and Palio has also become a symbol of resilience and rebirth, an opportunity for the community to come together and support the reconstruction of the area. Organized by the Pro Loco Tredozio, the event remains a living example of how popular tradition can unite a town.
The 60th edition of the Egg Festival and Palio celebrated six decades of history with a program full of events, enhanced by a large photographic exhibition dedicated to the memory of the event and by the traditional propitiatory dinner of the four districts set up in the square on the eve. The festival also confirmed its solidarity value, supporting the reconstruction of the territory after the flood and seismic events of previous years.
Tredozio is located in the upper Tramazzo valley, in the Province of Forlì-Cesena. By car from Forlì, take the SP4 towards Modigliana-Tredozio (about 40 km). The nearest train station is Faenza or Forlì, on the Bologna-Rimini line, from where you can continue by car or public bus.
Admission to the event is by free donation. Food stands are charged according to the price list.
Comfortable clothing is recommended, suitable for moving in the Tramazzo riverbed where the Palio events take place. As it is a small Apennine village, it is advisable to arrive early for parking.
