The festival of sustainability, identity, and creativity in the heart of Melilli
EcoExpo is an event dedicated to sustainability, identity, and creativity, held in Melilli, a town in the province of Syracuse, Sicily. Promoted by the Fondazione Museo Pino Valenti da Melilli in collaboration with the local municipal administration, the festival serves as a "hub of ideas and visions" addressing the major environmental and economic challenges of our time.
For four days, the historic center of Melilli comes alive with meetings, panels, cultural events, and discussions dedicated to the future development of the Syracuse and Sicilian territory. The heart of the event is Piazza Filippo Crescimanno and the internal courtyard of the Town Hall (Piazza Campidoglio), which host exhibitors, local producers' stands, and meeting spaces.
EcoExpo weaves together several themes that illustrate a territory in transition:
A city historically tied to the industrial hub of Augusta and Priolo is thus reinterpreted as a laboratory for culture, environment, and community, becoming a regional reference point for the debate on sustainability.
Alongside conferences and round tables, EcoExpo offers workshops, educational labs, and immersive experiential trails designed to engage families, schools, and young people. The exhibition spaces feature dozens of partners and exhibitors, including local producers and food and wine excellences, with the involvement of organizations such as the ITS Fondazione Archimede and the nature reserves of the Syracuse area.
The event is part of Melilli's rich spring calendar and engages with the Octave of Saint Sebastian, the town's patron saint, blending cultural and environmental dimensions with local traditions. It is a perfect opportunity to visit Melilli and discover its Baroque historic center, its squares, and the heritage of the province of Syracuse.
The second edition of EcoExpo took place in Melilli (SR) from May 8 to 11, 2026, expanding the 2025 program with four days of meetings, panels, and cultural moments between Piazza Crescimanno and the Town Hall courtyard.
The opening, on Friday, May 8 at 4:30 PM in the Town Hall courtyard (Piazza Campidoglio), brought together institutional and cultural representatives in the presence of Mayor Giuseppe Carta. The festival confirmed its focus on the intersection of environment, circular economy, sustainable tourism, and the enhancement of the Syracuse territory.
The detailed program for May 9, 10, and 11 was published by the Fondazione Museo Pino Valenti and the local press.
