The Full Moon of the Deer in Fidenza
The Full Moon of the Deer is an event in the summer review #EccoFidenza, the calendar of walks and nature excursions promoted by the Municipality of Fidenza, in the province of Parma, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna. The event offers an evening walk that starts at dusk and takes place under the light of the July full moon, the one that Anglo-Saxon tradition calls the Buck Moon, the deer moon.
The route through the hills of Costamezzana
The meeting point is set for the late afternoon/evening at the cemetery parking lot in Costamezzana, a hilly hamlet in the Fidenza area. From here, a loop of about 7 kilometers begins, with an elevation gain of about 150 meters and a T (tourist) difficulty rating, suitable even for families with children aged 5 and up. The walk lasts approximately three hours, including stops, and concludes in the moonlight along the return path.
An accompanied walk
The group is led by a certified hiking environmental guide, who accompanies participants in discovering the agricultural and hilly landscape of the lower Parma area. It is an opportunity to experience the Fidenza territory in a different light, away from the heat of the central hours, enjoying the silence of the evening and the summer sky.
Tips for participating
- Wear shoes with lug soles and clothing suitable for the season
- Bring a flashlight, preferably a headlamp
- Carry at least one liter of water per person
- Bring mosquito repellent and a snack for the break
The initiative is part of the broader program «Si muove la città» (The City Moves), which enlivens Fidenza's summer with sports, cultural, and outdoor events, promoting the hamlets and hills surrounding the city along the Via Francigena.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Full Moon of the Deer returns to Fidenza, an evening hike in the #EccoFidenza series. The meeting is set for 7:00 PM at the cemetery parking lot in Costamezzana.
The route is a loop of about 7 km with 150 meters of elevation gain and T (tourist) difficulty, lasting about three hours including stops, suitable for children aged 5 and up. The walk concludes in the light of the full moon of the deer, with the guidance of the environmental hiking guide accompanying the group.
Booking is mandatory by 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 28; the cost is approximately €12 per person, and the event is confirmed upon reaching a minimum of 10 participants (maximum 20).

How to get there
Fidenza is served by a train station on the Milan–Bologna line and by the A1 motorway (Fidenza-Salsomaggiore exit). Costamezzana can be reached by car from the center of Fidenza in a few minutes.
