The annual Easter tradition of the Musikkapelle Glurns in the civic hall of the medieval village in Val Venosta
The Easter Concert of the Glorenza City Music Band, known in German as the Osterkonzert der Musikkapelle Glurns, is the annual event that kicks off the band's concert season. It takes place on Easter Sunday in the City Hall (Stadtsaal), located within the municipal building at Piazza Municipio 1, in the heart of the medieval village of Glorenza (Glurns), in the province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
Founded in 1861, the Glorenza City Music Band is one of the historic ensembles of the Upper Val Venosta and is a member of the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen (South Tyrolean Band Federation), Silandro/Schlanders district. Today, it comprises about forty-five musicians and is led by conductor Manfred Horrer, a native of Silandro, who has been at the helm since the autumn of 2013 after directing other ensembles in the valley. The presidency is held by Ulrike Strimmer.
The Easter concert is designed for a wide audience of families and enthusiasts, offering a true journey through the world of wind music (Blasmusik). The repertoire alternates between brilliant pages of the Viennese tradition, arrangements from famous musicals, and pieces from the international contemporary band repertoire, striking a balance between lightheartedness and artistic depth that has characterized the evenings of the Musikkapelle Glurns for years.
Glorenza is one of the smallest cities in the Alps and one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy): its 14th-century defensive walls, city gates, and arcades make it a fascinating destination in the Upper Val Venosta, just a few kilometers from the borders with Switzerland and Austria. The Easter Concert represents a moment of strong community identity for the small town, where the band is a vibrant part of social and cultural life.
The 2026 Easter Concert of the Glorenza City Music Band took place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 7:30 PM, in the City Hall (Stadtsaal), under the direction of Maestro Manfred Horrer and moderated by Lena Stocker. The program offered a journey through the world of wind music with pieces of great stylistic variety.
Glorenza can be reached by car via the SS40 Val Venosta road; the nearest train station is Malles (Mals), on the Merano-Malles line, from where you can continue by SAD/SASA bus. Reference airports: Bolzano, Innsbruck, and Verona.
The concert takes place in the City Hall (Stadtsaal), inside the municipal building at Piazza Municipio 1. For times and admission details, it is advisable to contact the Upper Val Venosta Tourist Association (Ferienregion Obervinschgau).
