About Duck Festival

In the heart of the Bassa modenese, the hamlet of Massa Finalese celebrates its Duck Festival every August, one of the longest-running and most beloved village festivals in Emilia-Romagna, reaching its 125th edition in 2026. For two weekends around Ferragosto, the Pala Diversivo Prosolidar gastronomic stand offers the great classics of local peasant cuisine based on duck and mallard, from duck ragu bigoli to baked duck with potatoes, accompanied by live music evenings, ballroom dancing, and shows. An authentic, free festival for all ages.

A centuries-old tradition in the Bassa modenese

The Duck Festival is the major summer event in Massa Finalese, a populous hamlet of the Municipality of Finale Emilia, in the plain of the province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. With a history rooted over a century ago, it is one of the oldest and most iconic festivals in the area: in 2025, the 124th edition was celebrated, and in 2026 the event reaches the milestone of the 125th edition. It is much more than a gastronomic festival: it is the collective ritual with which an entire community gathers around the table and music during the hot days of Ferragosto.

Duck, the queen of the table

The absolute protagonist is duck, prepared in all its forms by the traditional peasant cuisine of the Bassa. The gastronomic stand, carefully managed by volunteers, offers a rich menu ranging from duck cured meats and cold cuts to the signature first courses: duck ragu bigoli, pumpkin tortelloni, and pasta al pettine. Among the main courses, the baked duck quarter with potatoes and the half mallard stand out, alongside cotechino and breaded cutlets. Seasonal side dishes and traditional desserts like crostata and zuppa inglese are also available, as well as vegetarian options.

Music, dancing, and shows

Every evening the festival comes alive with live music: from grand ballroom dancing with orchestras to cover bands, comedy shows, and dance nights with DJs. Over the years, the festival has hosted ballroom orchestras, tribute shows, and DJ sets, transforming the Pala Diversivo square into an open-air dance floor where multiple generations meet. Alongside the musical evenings, there are exhibitions, workshops, and cultural initiatives curated by the organizing association.

A community festival

The event is organized by the MMGA Association (Make Massa Great Again), which, with the commitment of its volunteers, keeps alive a tradition that is the collective heritage of the hamlet. Admission to the shows is free, and the atmosphere is that of the genuine large village festivals of Emilia, where good food, conviviality, and popular music are the true heart of the celebration. An ideal opportunity to discover the authentic hospitality of the Bassa modenese.
