Faber’s poetry in a classical guise at the Abbey of San Remigio
De André in Classic is a concert-show that brings the poetry of Fabrizio De André beneath the vaults of the Abbey of San Remigio, a 12th-century Romanesque jewel nestled in the countryside of Parodi Ligure, a small town in the Province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Apennine Piedmont near the border with Liguria. The setting is no coincidence: the Benedictine monastery, with origins dating back to 1033, offers acoustics and an atmosphere that amplify the emotional intensity of Faber’s songs.
The project entrusts the most famous tracks of the Genoese singer-songwriter to the Soloists of the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria, a leading musical ensemble in the region. The arrangements are by Stefano Cabrera, a Genoese composer and cellist, who reinterprets masterpieces like La canzone di Marinella, Bocca di rosa, Don Raffaè, and Le nuvole in a chamber music style. The vocals are provided by the Florentine actress and singer Flavia Barbacetto, a versatile performer capable of seamlessly shifting between singing and narration.
The evening is more than just a concert: the performances are interspersed with readings taken from interviews and statements by De André himself and the artists who collaborated with him. The result is a journey that restores not only the music but also the philosophy and poetics of Faber, touching on irony, social commitment, and tenderness for the marginalized.
The initiative is promoted by the Rotary Club Gavi Libarna as part of the celebrations for its thirtieth anniversary, with the patronage of the Municipality of Parodi Ligure. Admission is free with voluntary donations: the proceeds from the evening will go toward the purchase of a defibrillator for the town, thus combining culture, musical memory, and concrete support for the local community.
