Contemporary dance in the Hall of Horses of Palazzo Te
Danzare Mantova — Traces and Roots is a contemporary dance festival that has found a unique setting: the Hall of Horses of Palazzo Te, in Mantua, one of the most famous rooms of the Renaissance palace frescoed by Giulio Romano. The performances engage in a dialogue with the architecture and paintings, creating a fascinating interplay between contemporary dance and 16th-century art.
The festival is promoted by the ArcoEste D'Arco–D'Este Dance High School in collaboration with the Palazzo Te Foundation, and hosts choreographers and dancers with international training. The performances, lasting a few intense minutes, highlight contemporary choreographic research and the connection between body, space, and memory evoked by the subtitle "Traces and Roots".
Although admission is free, Danzare Mantova is a quality event that requires mandatory booking due to the limited capacity of the hall. It is an opportunity to witness contemporary dance creations in an exceptional monumental context, far from the conventions of traditional theatre.
Mantua (Province of Mantua) houses one of the pinnacles of European Renaissance art in Palazzo Te. Hosting contemporary dance in its halls means renewing the dialogue between historical heritage and artistic creation, in line with the cultural vocation of the city of the Gonzaga.
The 4th edition of Danzare Mantova brings contemporary dance to the Hall of Horses of Palazzo Te on April 28 and 29, 2026. The performances engage in dialogue with Giulio Romano's frescoes in a unique monumental setting.
On April 28, Christian Fagetti, who trained at the ballet school of Teatro alla Scala, presents "Natura morta" in two performances; on April 29, Alisia Ialicicco, artistic director of the Anam company, offers "Fortuna" and "Occhi di velo".
