Chalets, ice rink, and Christmas atmosphere in Piazza Virgiliana
The Mantua Christmas Markets are the highlight of the city's winter season, set up in the picturesque Piazza Virgiliana. Promoted by the Municipality of Mantua, they transform the square into a Christmas village for shopping, tasting specialties, and soaking up the festive atmosphere.
The heart of the markets consists of about sixty wooden chalets, offering artisanal products, food and wine specialties, Christmas decorations, clothing, and home goods. Alongside the stands, there is a large ice skating rink (approx. 500 m²) and a Christmas train connecting Piazza Mantegna to the market square, much to the delight of young and old.
The program also includes the Christmas Arena, with concerts, choral performances, and entertainment accompanying the market days. A calendar of events that makes the markets not just a shopping destination, but a true festive space for the entire community.
A UNESCO World Heritage site, Mantua (Province of Mantua) offers an exceptional setting during the Christmas weeks: historic palaces, lakes, and illuminated squares provide the backdrop for a Christmas of great charm. The markets in Piazza Virgiliana are a focal point for residents and tourists, from late November until Epiphany.
For the 2026 holidays, the Mantua Christmas Markets will once again animate Piazza Virgiliana, with the usual formula: about sixty wooden chalets, an ice skating rink, a Christmas train, and events at the Christmas Arena.
The precise dates for the 2026 edition will be announced in autumn by the Municipality of Mantua; the historical schedule places the markets from late November until Epiphany, with openings on weekends and holidays.
